If you’re a woman over 40 and feel like you’re doing everything right… but your body isn’t responding the way it used to—you’re not crazy. And you’re not broken.

But instead of leaning out, you feel heavier. Instead of more energy, you’re exhausted. Instead of progress, you feel stuck.

Let’s talk about why.

The Old Playbook (That Used to Work)

At one point, it did work.

More miles → leaner body
Eat less → faster results
Push harder → get stronger

So now, when things stop working, your instinct is: “I just need to do more.”

More cardio.
Less food.
More discipline.

But here’s the truth: that strategy isn’t broken… it’s just not aligned with your body anymore.

What Changed After 40

Your body has shifted.

Hormones are changing. You’re more sensitive to stress. Recovery takes longer. Muscle is harder to maintain.

And all of that impacts:

  • Fat loss
  • Energy
  • Performance

So doing more of what used to work doesn’t give you the same result. I know that’s hard to hear, but it’s the truth. I first realized it shortly after I turned 52. The weight creeped on, week after week. My clothes stopped fitting. I’d look at myself in the mirror and think: who am I???

The Real Problem: Stress Overload

Your body doesn’t separate types of stress.

Hard workouts = stress
Busy life = stress
Under-eating = stress

It all stacks.

And when that stress stays high:

  • Cortisol stays elevated
  • Fat loss slows (especially midsection)
  • Muscle breaks down
  • Energy tanks

It’s not that you’re not working hard enough. It’s that your body is overwhelmed.

Why More Cardio Backfires

Adding more cardio to an already stressed system? That’s not the fix.

More cardio → more stress
More stress → stalled results

Add under-fueling, and now your body is holding onto fat and burning through muscle.

The thing you’re doing to fix it… might be what’s keeping you stuck.

Do any of these sound familiar? 🤔

  • Working out/training consistently but not seeing changes
  • Feeling more exhausted than energized
  • Performance feels flat
  • Always hungry… or not hungry at all
  • Feeling puffy or inflamed
  • Sleep is off

This isn’t a motivation problem. It’s a strategy problem.

The Shift: Train Smarter

You can’t stop aging (I know, I know- this sucks). And you don’t need to stop being an endurance athlete.

You just need a better approach.

🍽️ Fuel your body properly
More protein. Strategic carbs. Stop under-eating.

🏋🏼 Add strength training
This is non-negotiable for muscle, metabolism, and performance.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Manage your stress load
Not every workout needs to crush you. Recovery matters.

🏃🏼‍♀️ Keep endurance training—just with intention
It’s not about doing less. It’s about doing it smarter.

Now is the time!

If any of this is resonating with you, then it might be time to rethink how you’re training and fueling.

This is exactly what I help women over 40 navigate—especially endurance athletes who feel stuck despite doing “everything right.”

No extremes. No guesswork. Just a smarter way forward.

I’ll be starting a new, 6-week round on April 20. If you want more energy, and if you want to fit into your favorite shorts again, then this is for you! I’ll have you feeling your best by June 1… just in time for summer! ☀️

Respond to this blog, or find me on the socials, and I’ll be happy to send you more info.

As always: thanks for being here and thanks for reading.
